One Year to Go until the FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia and New Zealand 2023™!

FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023™

Today marks One Year to Go until the eyes of the world will be on Host City Auckland as we kick off the FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia and New Zealand 2023™.

Celebrating the world’s best female footballers as they showcase their skills and talent to a global audience, this will be a tournament of firsts: the first time that 32 teams will be competing – the same number as the FIFA Men's World Cup™. The first time that the women’s tournament will be hosted in the Asia Pacific region in the southern hemisphere. And the first time that it will be co-hosted by two nations across nine cities including Auckland, Wellington, Dunedin, and Hamilton.

The tournament will be the largest women’s sporting event in the world with all 64 matches played over 32 days broadcasted live around the world. As a trailblazing event, bringing together diverse peoples and cultures, the tournament is aiming to go ‘Beyond Greatness’ shifting the focus from being solely on the sporting aspect to tapping into the lifestyle and cultural aspects of the event.

In particular, the opening ceremony, hosted in Auckland, will be a chance to showcase Aotearoa New Zealand’s culture to the world: its stories, its people, and its unique spirit of manaakitanga. This is history in the making!
