Three luxury hotel openings in three months for Auckland

Auckland will welcome three new luxury hotels – opening this September, October and November – in time for the summer 2020/21 season.

The Park Hyatt Auckland

Three impressive new 5-star city hotels – The Hotel Britomart, Park Hyatt and QT Auckland – each occupying prime locations on or close to the waterfront, will bring a luxurious and varied sense of place, culture and style to discerning guests in the City of Sails.

The Hotel Britomart – eco designer stay
Final touches are underway and they're hiring at The Hotel Britomart, a five-star development in the chic heritage precinct of the same name.

Due to open on 1 October, the hotel’s slim angular lines are an imposing addition to the lanes, designer boutiques and classy hospitality spots that have transformed this formerly down-at-heel transport hub into a cool downtown neighbourhood.

The 104-room luxury hotel is New Zealand’s greenest hotel, with a 5 Green Star rating from the New Zealand Green Building Council. Accommodation includes 99 guest rooms and five luxurious Landing Suites, all operating as part of the TFE Hotels Collection. The Landing Suites will become the city pad for guests coming and going from the renowned Bay of Islands luxury lodge, The Landing.

The hotel project includes the refurbishment of two heritage buildings. A restaurant named Kingi (short for kingfish) will open on the ground floor of historic Masonic House, while three other new restaurants are opening just steps from the hotel entrance. From there it’s an easy walk to the smart new Commercial Bay dining and shopping centre, The Viaduct hospitality precinct, Waiheke ferry terminal and railway station.

The Park Hyatt – sense of culture

Opening mid-September 2020 in an absolute waterfront location – on the edge of the Viaduct Harbour and overlooking the Waitematā Harbour – the Park Hyatt Hotel is emerging with a unique New Zealand design story inspired by Māori culture and heritage.

The overall design of the seven-storey hotel takes inspiration from a traditional Māori wharenui, a traditional place of gathering, while the double-skin exterior echoes the protective status of a Māori cloak. Māori designs and artworks adorn the interiors, including carved pouwhenua (poles) and tukutuku panels and rugs woven from New Zealand wool.

Accomodation includes 195 generous guest rooms, 23 suites and the rooftop Presidential Suite, 245sqm  featuring an internal garden and a large terrace with panoramic views. Guest rooms start at 47sqm, almost double the size of comparable rooms in the city.

Signature restaurant Onemata, and a collection of bars and restaurants, will be helmed by Kiwi chef Brent Martin.

QT Auckland – quintessential quirk

Scheduled to open on 1 November 2020, the new QT Auckland is the result of a clever and stylish transformation of a contemporary office building in the city’s popular Viaduct Harbour precinct.

Expect signature QT quirk and style at this tasty new waterside pearl. Designer Nic Graham takes inspiration from a plate of oysters – a quintessential Auckland dining experience – mixing and mingling rough and raw textures with the sleek and smooth throughout the 150 rooms and suites, public spaces, restaurant and rooftop bar.

QT Auckland is the third QT property in New Zealand, following on from the popular Wellington and Queenstown establishments.
