Sofitel Wellington to reopen in October

Wellington's newest five-star hotel reopens  next month after closing for almost a year due to fire damage.

The 129-room, 14-storey hotel is located between Wellington’s iconic landmarks the Beehive and the Botanical Gardens.

Sofitel Wellington had been open just five months when a fire broke out in its restaurant, Jardin Grill, forcing the lengthy closure. It will officially reopen on October 9.

General manager for Sofitel Wellington, Stephen Gould, said the Sofitel’s return has been highly anticipated.

“We are so excited to reopen our doors and pick up where we left off; offering Wellington locals, Kiwi travellers and tourists alike a place to relax and enjoy in a refined environment with a sophisticated ambience.
“It is important for us to resume our reputation as one of the capital’s finest hotels where guests come first. We are excited to once again see the hotel buzzing with activity and we have some great events planned for our welcome back, including stimulating talks, live music and culinary events which should really attract the local and international market,” he said.

With a wine list curated by New Zealand’s premiere wine authority John Saker, and menu designed by culinary star Royxeenn Giam, the hotel’s restaurant, Jardin Grill, will also be reopening.

Sofitel Wellington is the third Sofitel for New Zealand, joining Sofitel Auckland Viaduct Harbour and Sofitel Queenstown Hotel & Spa.
