Skyline Rotorua launches new $2m Stratosfare Restaurant

After a $2m refurbishment, Skyline Rotorua has launched its new Stratosfare Restaurant.

Set amongst the stars atop Mt Ngongotaha, Skyline Rotorua launched its new Stratosfare Restaurant to around 200 guests last night, showcasing the stunning new interior and interactive dining experience as the result of a $2 million redevelopment.
Skyline Rotorua general manager Bruce Thomasen says Stratosfare Restaurant redefines the parameters of what is considered buffet, taking the concept to new levels. 
 “To coin a new phrase - the A’ la buffet experience - includes kitchen theatre, marketplace feel and cooked-to-order options, encouraging diners to have a little bit of everything.
“Diners can pick their own prime cuts of meat sourced from Mangatu farms in Gisborne and aged to perfection here on site, which our executive chef Fred Kreutmayer and team will then flame grill to order - choose from venison, lamb, fresh fish, prawns, crayfish and morton bay bugs. Other favourites are also available to pick and choose from such as fresh salads, anti pasto selection, deli cured meats and our famous seafood chowder.
“When it comes to dessert, in addition to the vast selection of classics, we also have chefs preparing fresh crepes on the spot for you too. My favourite is to combine a couple of crepes with icecream, chocolate mousse, berries and a sprinkling of nuts.” 
The interior redesign is striking as you enter, showing a complete transformation with luxurious Italian marble, granite, schist stonework and timber, setting the scene for a memorable experience. David Trubridge lights create a contemporary ambience and then there’s the view - the 180 degree panorama of Lake Rotorua and the city is always a sight to behold. 
Stratosfare has been launched simultaneously with Skyline Queensown, which has also redeveloped its dining experience.
The name Stratosfare is derived from ‘Stratos’ – meaning ‘up high’ – and ‘Fare’, a collection of food. It was an obvious choice for both Skyline Gondola properties summing up the elevated location and new dining experience perfectly says chief executive Jeff Staniland
Mr Thomasen says the opening of Stratosfare signals the beginning of an exciting new era for Skyline Rotorua.  
“We are pleased to be extending our premium restaurant offering and we’re looking forward to providing our customers with not only an exceptional dining experience, but with the best views of the city,” he says.
