Three major awards in 24 hours – Haka Tourism Group on a roll.
Haka Tourism Group were presented with the national awards for both Best Tour Operator New Zealand (Haka Tours) and Best Accommodation New Zealand (Haka Lodges) at the Adventure Tourism Awards in Australia. Haka Tours also received the award for Excellence in Marketing Central Region at the Westpac Business Awards.
Major acquisition for Marlborough Tour Company (MTC).
MTC have expanded with the purchase of the popular Furneaux Lodge and Punga Cove Resort in the Marlborough Sounds. Both lodges are located in the Endeavour Inlet, on the world-renowned Queen Charlotte Track.
New $4.3 million development for Hanmer Springs.
Hanmer Springs Thermal Pools and Spa have announce they have lodged resource consnt application to build five new pools, and a new aquatic thrill ride that’s the first of it’s kind in New Zealand. The development will cost $4.3 million and is set to open towards the end of 2019.
Real Journeys group of companies now represented by ‘Wayfare’.
Real Journeys, has announced the establishment of a new corporate entity called ‘Wayfare’ to represent its tourism companies in the international market. Wayfare will make it easier for trade customers to do business with the group’s five brands; Real Journeys, Cardrona Alpine Resort, Go Orange, International Antarctic Centre and Canyon Food & Brew Co.
New summer product for Air Milford
Air Milford has released a new product ahead of the summer season. The ‘Milford Sound and Big 5 Glaciers’ is a 60-minute scenic flight combining the traditional destination of Milford Sound with an extended look at some of the South Islands most spectacular glaciers.

Visitors can enjoy guided fishing or hiking in the Greenstone Valley with an exclusive overnight experience launched by Glacier Southern Lakes Helicopter.
Nearly $1 million spent on Matakauri Lodge refurbishment
Matakauri Lodge has completed a large scale, soft refurbishment throughout the lodge and all room categories. The soft refurbishment has included a repaint, new furniture and reupholstering of existing furniture including daybeds in the lodges Suites and Deluxe Suite rooms.
Queenstown’s latest luxury suites dazzle invited guests
Three luxury junior suites have just been completed at Queenstown Park Boutique Hotel. The three suites have been built on the floor above the existing premier Remarkables Rooms. They all have breath-taking views of the surrounding mountains; Coronet Peak, The Remarkables and Cecil Peak respectively.
Rebrand for Aspen Hotel
A multi-million-dollar rebuild and rebrand have transformed Queenstown’s Aspen Hotel into Kamana Lakehouse. ‘Kāmana’ is the Māori name for the Australasian Crested Grebe, which breeds on NZ’s southern lakes. Kamana Lakehouse is open with just sixteen rooms scheduled to complete in January.
Gibbston Valley Winery expands
Groundwork has begun on a multimillion-dollar boutique lodge and cottages complex at Gibbston Valley Winery near Queenstown. The long-planned project will consist of a central lodge with a basement wine cellar, spa and 24 guest cottages.
