Craft an amazing trip exploring Canterbury by getting up close with farm animals, learning about the local marine life and leaving with your head in the stars.
Touch down at Christchurch International Airport (domestic transfers are also available from Auckland airport if required).
Wander through the botanic gardens for a breath of fresh air and opt for a guided tour to learn more about our native flora.
To take the day to another level, hop on the local Gondala with epic views over the city and beyond, and reach the skies as a final activity to wrap up the first day.
After a peaceful sleep, start the day crisp with a visit to the International Antarctic Centre and discover life in the Antarctic before getting up close with some native wildlife at a local reserve.
Once the big city has been explored, finish the second day by heading out to Akaroa for an evening of luxury accommodation.
Plunge into the next day and get amongst the famous marine life of Akaroa. Join a penguin tour or get a little closer underwater by swimming with local wild dolphins.
Ready for more wildlife? Grab a camera and head out to a nearby Alpaca farm to feed and pet some cheeky creatures.
When ready, load up the GPS and drive through the beautiful Mackenzie country, arriving at Lake Tekapo for a star studded evening stay in the country’s largest dark sky reserve.
Enjoy your final stop in the itinerary by visiting one of the local farms (if you haven’t yet had enough animal interaction!) before soaking in the sun and stunning surrounds of Lake Tekapo.
For the astronomers, a minimum two night-stay is recommended in remote areas such as Tekapo, to allow for any weather or schedule changes. On one of the final evenings, check out Dark Sky Project and gaze upon a starry night sky after the sun sets.
Most experiences mentioned in this itinerary can be booked through the Explore New Zealand Discount Programme.
