New Zealand’s borders are open to all tourists and visa holders.

The New Zealand border has fully reopened to the rest of the world from today (1 August 2022), an important milestone for the recovery of the tourism sector.

The maritime border is now open to cruise ships and recreational vessels such as ocean-going yachts.

  • New Zealand’s border is open to all tourists and visa holders (tourist, visitor, work and student visas) from 11:59pm 31 July 2022.
  • Travellers from anywhere in the world can apply to come to New Zealand.
  • Cruise ships can enter New Zealand.

Travellers will still need to meet all health requirements to enter New Zealand, including vaccination requirements.

The first cruise ship, the Pacific Explorer, is due into Auckland on 12 August, with the summer cruise season expected to be in full operation from October onwards.
