Road access to Kaikoura:
SH1 south from Kaikoura to Christchurch: OPEN Fridays - Mondays 7am-7pm, CLOSED Tuesdays - Thursdays (until December 2017)
SH1 south from Kaikoura to Christchurch special closure dates: Monday 16 October, Friday 20 October, Monday 6 November, Friday 10 November
SH1 north from Kaikoura to Clarence/Picton: CLOSED (due to reopen December 2017)
Inland Route SH70 between Hanmer Springs and Kaikoura: OPEN - please take extra care on these roads
Travel between Christchurch and Picton via SH70 takes approximately 7.5 hours. This route is very scenic and there are great places to stop along the way. Click here
