What is your favourite place in New Zealand?

Franz Josef Glacier, West Coast (South Island).

Why is it special to you?

Seeing the Franz Josef Glacier from the air was a breath-taking view – after just a 20-minute helicopter ride you can get up close to the glacier and touch the snow, and see the icy landscape for miles in the distance.

It’s such a wonderful experience, getting up close to the magnificent glacier. The helicopter pilot was so friendly and provided interesting facts about the area, as well as a perfectly smooth ride.

Do you have a favourite time of year to visit?

My favourite time of year to visit New Zealand is the winter time (May – August).

It’s a great time to go skiing or snowboarding, or experience other snow activities such as snow shoeing, sledging and snow driving. It’s also a great time for wildlife spotting, as humpback whales migrate up the coastline from Antarctica.

What do you see as New Zealand’s unique selling points – the “must-dos” when creating itineraries for your clients?

New Zealand’s unique experiences include the Maori cultural experiences (such as a cultural performance or a hangi lunch or dinner), visiting a glowworm cave, adrenaline activities (bungee jumping, jetboating, 4WD safaris) and boat cruises on the Milford and Doubtful sounds.

For me, my must-dos are taking a helicopter ride to Franz Josef Glacier and Mount Cook, taking the TranzAlpine scenic rail journey, visiting Hobbiton Movie Set, exploring Queenstown, witnessing geothermal activity in Rotorua and skiing at Coronet Peak.
