Your reputation as an international travel seller is enhanced if you’ve had first hand experience of Destination New Zealand. Our familiarisation programme (famil) enables you to experience New Zealand for yourself so you can be sure you are selling an experience that will meet or exceed your client’s expectations.
What is a famil?
A famil is a special programme held each year by Tourism New Zealand to bring international travel sellers to New Zealand to familiarise themselves with what New Zealand has to offer. Famil’s target two key audiences:
Senior managers and product managers - because they make the decisions on what destinations and experiences are promoted and sold
Front-line retail agents - because they deal face to face with customers and influence their holiday decisions
Famils are organised from all of New Zealand’s offshore markets. Most famils take place in the shoulder seasons from September to November and April to June.
Once participants are confirmed, Regional Tourism Organisations (RTOs) suggest relevant New Zealand internationally-ready operators to match their interests and needs.
Why take part in a famil?
The aim of each famil is to give you the opportunity to learn about regions in New Zealand you’re not familiar with. You’ll also discover new travel products to add to your offerings for your clients.
How do I take part in a famil?
You need to be a well-established New Zealand seller who promotes the type of travel and experiences that offer New Zealand the most potential in your market. Participants are carefully selected, starting with recommendations from Tourism New Zealand’s international offices.
