Position: Trade Development Manager

What is your favourite ‘undiscovered location’ in New Zealand?
Papa Aroha, which is in Coromandel, on New Zealand’s North Island.

Why is it special to you?
Papa Aroha always reminds me of a place where New Zealanders go on holiday! The only place to stay and get access to Papa Aroha is via the Papa Aroha Holiday Park. It is located right on the beachfront with superb sea and island views, fantastic for family holidays, boating and fishing.

If you have access to a boat or kayak the possibilities to explore the marine environment are unlimited, and within just minutes of the beach. The location and holiday park remind me of the “old school” New Zealand holiday destination: families mingling, strangers sharing stories over a beverage watching the sun come down, children roaming safely between their new camp families – a little like New Zealand in the 70s and 80s.

Who did you travel with?
I have had many family camping trips here with my two young children, as well as several fishing trips with my friends.

What is your best piece of advice for people visiting this location?
Don’t expect five stars in terms of facilities, but do expect a friendly Kiwi welcome in a five-star location.

What is the closest airport/how do you get there?
The nearest airport is located in Auckland. Coromandel Town is 2 hours and 15 minutes’ drive from Auckland. From Coromandel Town, head north-west on Colville Road, Papa Aroha is around 20 minutes’ drive.
