Hertz – new development
Hertz has introduced two new commercial vehicle lines to its New Zealand fleet following high demand from the infrastructure and agricultural industries. The Toyota Hilux and Toyota Hiace ZX vehicles are available in Auckland, Christchurch, Hamilton and Bay of Plenty.
The double-cab diesel Hilux 4WD offers ample space for transporting heavy goods and tools while comfortably seating five people. The ZX Cargo van seats up to three people and features low level loading, a rear step bumper, tie-down hooks and a backing monitor.
In addition to commercial vehicles, the New Zealand fleet has economy, intermediate and full-size cars for hire. BMW vehicles are available via the Prestige Collection, as are a variety of 4WDs.
Chris Jolly Outdoors – largest launch receives major makeover
Chris Jolly Outdoors is excited to announce their largest launch, Cruise Cat, has just completed a major makeover. The exterior and interior have been completely re-painted, new flooring has been laid throughout, there is a spacious new bar and refurbished galley, and new plush seating inside.
Cruise Cat is a 70ft catamaran surveyed for 90 passengers with spacious seating for 70 split over two enclosed levels. With a full on-board bar, dance floor, karaoke, two bathrooms and buffet-style dining, Cruise Cat is set-up perfectly for large party groups or corporate events.
Takaro Trails – new tours
New for the 2014-15 season are the five day 'Easy Explorer' and seven day 'Classic Hawke's Bay' self-guided tours. These tours feature shorter cycling distances each day and have been designed to allow plenty of free time to enjoy the guilt-free calories of long, lazy lunches, swims in the rivers, browsing the boutiques or just savouring the peace and scenery. There is an impressive range of accommodation options available in Hawke’s Bay, allowing Takaro Trails to cater specifically to your clients’ needs.
Glen Aros Country Estate – Qualmark New Zealand Luxury Lodge status
Glen Aros Country Estate has recently been recognised as a Qualmark New Zealand Luxury Lodge. Observations from the Qualmark assessor included that the ‘attentiveness and professionalism of the hosts came to the fore and was delivered consistently throughout the stay.’ Lodge manager Meg Bremner says the achievement confirms that the lodge meets the expectations of its guests and travel company partners.
Quest Serviced Apartments - new property
Quest Serviced Apartments has a new property in central Wellington. Quest on Thorndon opened in August and is a 37-room complex consisting of 17 one bedroom apartments, 15 studio apartments, three special access studio apartments and two apartments with two bedrooms. Each apartment has a fully equipped kitchen, private laundry and spacious living and dining areas. Other amenities include Quest’s pantry shopping service, free high-speed internet access, chargeback facilities with local restaurants, valet dry cleaning and secure onsite car parking. It also offers a choice of 350 free in-house movies. The property is a short distance from Westpac Stadium, the TSB Bank Arena and the city’s entertainment hub, Courtenay Place. This is the seventh, and Quest’s first purpose built property, to open in the capital.
Marlborough Travel – rebranding
After 10 years as Marlborough Travel the company is being rebranded Marlborough Tour Company. “This has been a discussion point for years with Marlborough Travel being seen as a travel agent, an information centre and a booking agent for cruises and tours, rather than the tour operator that we are,” says GM Scott Mckenzie. “It will focus the company on our core business of tours in the Marlborough wine region and the Marlborough Sounds.”
All the same tours will operate including the Greenshell Mussel Cruise, Seafood Odyssea Cruise, Taste Marlborough Wine Tour and the Marlborough Icons Tour. The company also offers a range of private tours and cruises, group events, shore excursions and coach and vessel charters.
AORAKI/MOUNT COOK AND WAITAKI
Alps 2 Ocean – alternative start location
This season the Alps 2 Ocean cycling trail will offer an alternative starting point for the first time. The trail has been operating from Mt Cook to Oamaru, via Twizel and the Waitaki Valley, for two years and requires a two minute helicopter ride across the river, costing approximately NZ$125 per person. This year Alps 2 Ocean will be giving visitors the opportunity to start at Lake Tekapo, opening the ride up to people on more of a budget or those who are not as into the demanding, thrilling part of the ride. The 57km ride from Lake Tekapo to Twizel is a flat, making it a long day but a relatively easy one. The whole Alps 2 Ocean Ride takes five or six days.
Larnach Castle – new audio visual
Larnach Castle’s recently released audio visual experience is proving popular and will soon be available on Android as well as iPhones. Visitors can download the audio visual onto a smart phone before they visit the castle or hire an iPod on arrival. The audio visual includes re-enactments of historical scenes so that people can walk into a room and see what life was like there in the time of its original owners. The tour is great for visitors who want a bit more information but do not want to hire a guide.
