Polynesian Spa - new wellness developments
Rotorua’s Polynesian Spa has recently embarked on a re-development phase that focuses on its wellness and luxury offerings, as a way of wholly and sustainably capturing the site’s unique geothermal resources. The Polynesian Spa offers a wide range of spa treatments including massage therapies, facials and body wraps, as well as hot mineral bathing.
As part of its wellness and luxury re-development, Polynesian Spa has fully refurbished its massage rooms, installed ‘rain’ showers and beauty products in the Lake Spa changing rooms, added a juice bar in the adult pool area, revamped its café menu and products available in the shop, along with new package deals on offer and further developments planned. Chief executive George White says “We are unique in Rotorua, in that our hot mineral pools use two distinct types of mineral water, sourced from two geothermal springs and the combination of those two springs is exclusive to Polynesian Spa. The Rachael Spring produces silica-laden water that nourishes the skin, while water from the Priest Spring is slightly acidic, relieving sore muscles.”

Millbrook Resort – new development
Millbrook Resort has installed a GPS system on its brand new 50-strong fleet of golf carts. The cloud-based Golf Pilot system uses Samsung TAB devices which track the cart’s location, enabling players to see where they are on the course, highlights course no-go areas and shows pro-tips on how best to play the hole. Players can measure the distance to bunkers and the pin on the green and all info is displayed in any of 60 languages.
Back at the pro shop, the interactive and real-time map shows management where each of the carts are at any given time, meaning they can move slow players on and even call players back if they’re unlikely to finish before dark.
To ensure players stay on track while on course an audible warning sounds whenever a cart approaches an area where it’s not allowed to go such as greens or a nature area. Course overview maps highlight course play areas to prevent players inadvertently losing their way.
Other unique features include live local weather and radar maps, two-way communication and messaging between the cart and pro shop. The system can also screen ads for the Millbrook restaurants, spa, accommodation and special offers.
