Coastwide Helicopters (a division of GCH Aviation) has launched a new heli-biking experience, which drops riders at various landing sites along the 52.2 km trail, allowing easier access to the South Island’s remote West Coast wilderness.

The service will cut out 10-15 km and 800-1000 m of vertical climbing, making it achievable for experienced mountain bikers to complete the rest of the Paparoa Track in one day.

Take-off is from Greymouth in the morning, and riders can be back in time for dinner and a craft beer later that day.

Those travelling with their own bikes can be reassured they will be safely transported – Canadian designed, purpose-built racks are designed to protect bikes during the flight.

About the Paparoa Track:
New Zealand's 10th Great Walk, the Paparoa Track takes you on a journey over New Zealand’s spectacular Paparoa Range. It passes through varied landscapes, from subtropical rain forest to alpine tops, to the dramatic limestone gorge of the Pororari River. The track starts 30 minutes from Greymouth, in Blackball, an old mining town and finishes in Punakaiki (home to the aptly named Pancake Rocks). It can be biked or walked over several days.
