Middle-earth Trilogy Supercharged

Te Puia's joint offering with Hobbiton Movie Set Tours and Waitomo Glowworm Caves - the Middle-earth Trilogy - is set to undergo a youthful makeover, specifically focused on the youth and backpacker market.

The "supercharged" package is an addition to the original version, and is expected to have special appeal to the youth market. It includes the Black Labyrinth Tour (The Legendary Black Water Rafting Co.) at Waitomo, a guided tour at Matamata's Hobbiton Movie Set and the Steambox experience at Te Puia in Rotorua.

The Steambox experience involves a special guided tour of Te Puia New Zealand Maori Arts and Crafts Institute, which begins with a Maori cultural performance and then an interactive weaving session followed by a tour of the national carving and weaving schools.

Heading down into the geothermal valley to the kiwi house, mud pools and hot springs, the tour concludes when, after watching their lunch (pre-ordered by guests) being lifted from the natural steam vent, guests sit and enjoy their picnic on the geyser terrace.

The decision to join forces with two of New Zealand's top tourism attractions was an obivious one for Te Puia, with the Middle-earth Trilogy package offering visitors a unique insight into the wonders and movie magic of the Central North Island.

Te Puia General Manager Sales and Marketing, Kiri Atkinson-Crean, says the Trilogy package has been extremely popular with visitors wanting to learn, discover and experience more, bringing the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit movies to life for both young and old.

“The Trilogy provides visitors with a unique experience both below and above the earth, along with some special insights into our culture and heritage,” says Ms Atkinson-Crean.

“Steambox offers a unique insight into our past, utilising traditional cooking practices and tools that have been used by Te Arawa people in the valley for hundreds of years.”

Passes for both the Trilogy package and the supercharged version are open dated - it is recommended that visitors allow for at least a minimum two night stay in Rotorua to get the most out of their Trilogy experience.
