It is a common misconception that you can camp for free anywhere you want to in New Zealand, but this is not the case. While camping is often free from cost, it is not free from responsibility.

When assisting your clients with a camping holiday there are a range of products and services available. These will give your clients the flexibility they want but also help them stay organised, save them money and show them the value of using a travel agent.

These are the 3 main ways that your clients can camp responsibly in New Zealand: If your clients are planning to hire a campervan or motorhome then there are many companies to choose from all over New Zealand. When planning the itinerary, there are a few key points to remember to ensure you give your clients the best option: Remember, where your clients can camp depends on the type of vehicle they have: Our friends at Campermate have created a great video that summarises the Camping guidelines, laws and responsibilities:

What resources are available for my clients while travelling?
kete-(1).jpgAdvise your clients to pop into one of the many iSITEs across the country, which will be handing out recyclable ketes (bags) of camping knowledge when purchasing or booking any camping product, this could include bookable DOC Campsites, Holiday Parks or even purchasing camping gear. The bag is a great souvenir and can also double as a beach or shopping bag and is covered with helpful reminders.
If they are picking their camper van up from Queenstown, this will be included in the camper vehicle when booking with Britz, Maui, Travellers Autobarn or Escape Campers.

All Campervan rentals country-wide will come with a key tag reminder. If you are talking about this with your clients before they depart, these will all be familiar by the time they arrive.

They can also make use of the Campermate and Rankers mobile apps that will provide information on the go.
