An In-Depth Look at Te Papa Tongarewa, Wellington

 

With an unbeatable location on Wellington’s waterfront, Te Papa Tongarewa is the country’s national museum. Contemporary and bicultural, the museum is open every day (except Christmas Day) with general entry completely free. As well as permanent exhibitions and immersive exhibits, there’s an on-site café and gift shop. 

Guided tours of this Qualmark Gold attraction are an excellent way to get more out of any visit. The 90-minute Māori Experience Kīnaki tour aims to give manuhiri (visitors) a deeper understanding of Māori culture and includes a tasting of traditionally inspired kai (food). Other guided tours include an accessibility tour for those with hearing and visual needs, and a highlights tour in Mandarin. Maximum booking sizes vary between tours.
