In the North Island your clients will play world ranked courses, Cape Kidnappers and Kauri Cliffs, both courses are set in breathtaking cliff top locations. They will also tee off at the Jack Nicklaus signature course, The Kinloch Club, and the must-play Wairakei Golf and Sanctuary.

Your clients will then fly to the South Island and linger for a few days in the Queenstown region. Here they can play a round at Millbrook Resort, The Hills and Jack’s Point, all are expertly designed courses set in stunning locations.

To ensure your clients are well rested after their flight, we recommend they stay a night or two in their arrival city before collecting a rental vehicle. Driving in a new country can be challenging and will be even worse if the driver is tired. The driver should always be well rested, take regular breaks during the journey and plan to drive for only 1-2 hours at a time.

New Zealand has unique road rules and driving conditions that your clients may not be used to. For a safe and enjoyable journey make sure your clients know where to find information on New Zealand’s road rules before they depart for their holiday.

Here are some suggestions:

  • Day 1: Auckland - Matauri Bay

    Drive Fly 3 hours 45 minutes 292 KMS 181 MI
    Arrive in Auckland. If your clients are arriving off a long flight it is recommended they spend a day at leisure in Auckland before travelling to Northland. Otherwise they can collect a rental vehicle from Auckland airport and self-drive to Matauri Bay (Kauri Cliffs), approximately 3 hours 45 minutes.
     
    There is an option for your clients to take a domestic flight from Auckland to Kerikeri, approximately 45 minutes. Then collect a rental vehicle at Kerikeri airport and drive to Matauri Bay (Kauri Cliffs), approximately 25 minutes. If your clients are transferring from an international flight ensure there is at least 90 minutes between connecting flights.
     
    Kauri Cliffs is one of New Zealand’s most acclaimed golf courses. From its cliff top vantage point fifteen of the eighteen holes afford sweeping views of the Pacific Ocean. Your clients may wish to stay at the Lodge at Kauri Cliffs, an award-winning property offering luxury accommodation.

  • Day 2: Matauri Bay (Kauri Cliffs)

    Enjoy a round of golf at Kauri Cliffs. Your clients may also wish to experience some of the cultural and scenic delights close by.

    Recommended activities:

    • Learn more about the birthplace of the nation at Waitangi Treaty Grounds
    • Enjoy a cruise to ‘hole in the rock’
    •  Explore Kerikeri’s art galleries and boutique wineries
  • Day 3: Matauri Bay - Auckland - Taupo

    Drive Fly 7 hours 570 KMS 354 MI
    Your clients may wish to spend another day at Kauri Cliffs. Alternatively in the morning self-drive from Matauri Bay to Taupo via Auckland, approximately 7 hours.
     
    From Matauri Bay to Auckland there is an option to drive down the west coast route passing through Waipoua forest. Here your clients can take a short bush walk to see Tane Mahuta, New Zealand’s largest tree, a 2000 year old kauri.
     
    If time permits on the drive from Auckland to Taupo your clients may wish to stop in Matamata and visit the Hobbiton Movie Set from The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbitfilm trilogies in a two hour guided tour.
    The lake side town of Taupo provides visitors with a base to explore the regions many attractions and activities including hiking, mountain biking, golf and geothermal parks. Lake Taupo is the southern hemisphere’s largest lake measuring 616 square kilometres and offers visitors many water-based activities including lake cruises, kayaking and trout fishing.

  • Day 4: Taupo

    Play a round at Wairakei Golf and Sanctuary with its blend of natural surroundings, native birds and bush, all cleverly protected by predator proof fences. The club is also known as Wairakei International and is consistently ranked in the world top 100 lists.
     
    There are also plenty of activities available in Taupo if your clients prefer a day off the green.

  • Day 5: Taupo - Kinloch - Napier

    Drive Fly 2 hours 20 minutes 184 KMS 114 MI
    In the morning your clients will self-drive from Taupo to Kinloch (approximately 20 minutes) and play New Zealand’s only Jack Nicklaus signature golf course, The Kinloch Club. The links style course plays across volcanic terrain with challenging green complexes.
     
    After lunch your clients will self-drive from Kinloch to Napier in the Hawke’s Bay, approximately 2 hours. Alternatively your clients may wish to spend an additional night in Taupo and drive to Napier in the morning.
    The Hawkes Bay region boasts an outstanding natural environment and some of New Zealand’s best fresh seasonal food and award winning wine.  The backbone of Hawke’s Bay is the stunning natural beauty, with big blue skies, white sand beaches and scenic icons including Lake Waikaremoana, Te Mata Peak and Cape Kidnappers the home of the largest most accessible Gannet nesting place in the world.

  • Day 6: Napier

    Today your clients will tee off at Cape Kidnappers, a sister property to Kauri Cliffs. Designed by respected US architect Tom Doak, the superbly challenging course is the result of clever design and respect for the natural environment. Your clients may wish to stay at The Farm at Cape Kidnappers, a five star award-winning lodge.
     
    Hawke’s Bay boasts a fine array of attractions and activities that your clients may wish to try after completing the 18th hole.

  • Day 7: Napier - Queenstown

    Drive Fly 3 hours 30 minutes 804 KMS 499 MI
    Spend a leisurely morning exploring Hawke’s Bay. Early afternoon take a domestic flight from Napier to Queenstown, via Christchurch or Wellington, allow approximately 3 - 3.5 hours to complete this journey.
    Your clients may wish to hire a rental vehicle at Queenstown airport or take advantage of local transport providers.

  • Day 8: Queenstown

    There are three championship golf courses in Queenstown, each with their own distinct characteristics. They are: Millbrook Resort, The Hills and Jack’s Point.
     
    Over the next three days your clients may decide to play at all three courses or choose one or two courses allowing more time to explore the Queenstown region.
     

    Recommended activities:

    • Tee off at Jack’s Point
    • Adventure activities include bungy jumping, jet boating, white water rafting and ziplining
    • Enjoy the pristine waters of Lake Wakatipu on a boat cruise and visit a high country station
  • Day 9: Queenstown

    Today your clients may wish to play 18 holes at either Millbrook Resort or The Hills, both courses are located approximately 20 minutes’ drive from Queenstown.
     
    If your clients are self-driving they may also wish to visit Arrowtown, a quaint historic gold mining town, located a short drive from Millbrook Resort and The Hills.
     

    Recommended activities:

    • Play a round at Millbrook Resort
    • Tee off at The Hills
    • Visit quaint Arrowtown
    • Grab a bike and go cycling – options are available to suit everyone, including cycling on the Queenstown Trail, mountain biking and heli biking
  • Day 10: Queenstown - Auckland

    Drive Fly 1 hour 50 minutes 1024 KMS 636 MI
    Spend a leisurely morning exploring Queenstown. In the early afternoon take a domestic flight from Queenstown to Auckland, flight time approximately 1 hour 50 minutes.
     
    Your clients may wish to spend a few days exploring Auckland before flying home from this international gateway.
     
    Alternatively, Queenstown services flights to/from the east coast of Australia.
